Bondi Junction HOUSE 2
This five bedroom, four and a half bathroom home was a refurbishment in collaboration with the clients architect. Melanie Tomlinson Design was brought on board to establish a functional and aesthetic flow between structure and every day life in and around the home. Melanie and her team provided all interior joinery designs, finishes, lighting design, furniture and art procurement as well as working with the architect and landscape designer to ensure a consistent overall approach for the exterior style and finish.
This project was a refurbishment for a well travelled family who saw this as an opportunity to build a home that would provided their long term base. The brief was to create a modern family home that would provide the client with the space to entertain all year round. The clients desire for a relaxed indoor/outdoor lifestyle was reflected in the design with all living areas opening onto exterior spaces. The spaces are not only appealing in the summer months but appeal largely to the winter months with north and westerly facing windows to capture light and warmth. Due to its generous double frontage the bedrooms and bathrooms are spacious which include a master suite, with walk in robe, study and full ensuite.
While the client wanted a fairly neutral colour scheme, interest was created by using textural finishes such as the sculptural tiles in the powder room and master ensuite. The kitchen is understated and conceals the appliances, having a butlers pantry combined laundry for back of house use.
"I have clients who understand that to make a home really special it takes time, and during that time it takes thought an good process to deliver a home with soul.... Understanding and patience is key on both sides and should be a priority, as quite often we are designing for 'forever' and there is a very large investment at stake."
